The 2020s
Decade in review
The slowest start ever to a decade ….
Covid-19 found its way to Australia in early 2020 and only one event was held before the lockdown of Melbourne in early March saw rallying come to a stop. Only one more event was held that year, in December. Covid-10 also severely restricted rallying in 2021 although enough events were held to declare VRC and VCRS champions.
2022 saw a return to a more normal calendar although the ever-increasing challenges to running rallies reduced the number of Victorian events on the calendar to 18, 10 of which were organised by the Historic Rally Association. Tellingly, no other club ran an event that wasn’t VRC or VCRS.
That trend in calendar structure continued in 2023 although one club, MUCC, ran a non-championship event – a tour following the route of the 1963 Akademos Rally.
For the rest of the decade, we will have to wait and see ….
